    Choke setup

Hi all, could somebody tell me is there a procedure for setting up the chokes or do you just pull the cables through the holes on the carbs and tighten the nut? When I manually more the choke on the drivers side carb, there is no increase in speed till 1/4 of turn on the choke lever. So is that where you set the cable and tighten the nut? Or is there a fault in the butterfly? Left side is fine. Thanks again. Mark

    Mark,

The fast idle setup is explained in both the ROM (section 19) and Haynes. For initial cable setting, loosen the cable clamps, make sure both choke levers are fully off and the choke knob is fully in. Tighten the clamps. The outer cables are fixed in place with black spring clips. Releasing these and adjusting the position of the outer will affect how much the levers move. Careful releasing the spring clips; they can ping off and disappear into the furthest corner of your garage/workshop. BTDT!

Dont forget to grease the cam on the LH carb choke lever.

Hi date, thanks for the reply. I am aware of the fast idle setup but is it normal for the right hand choke to move 1/4 of a turn before there is an increase in engine speed or is that just bad adjustment? Thanks again. Mark

        Mark,

It is only the LH carb that increases engine speed. The LH choke lever is fitted with a cam that acts on an adjustable bolt which alters the fast idle.

Hi dave , that makes sense now. What does the right carb actually do when on choke? Cheers mark

Fuel enrichment only on the rh carb.

Tickover raised plus fuel enrichment on the lh carb.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
