Hi. I seem to have a fair amount of oil leaking from the gearbox and/or overdrive. I have pushed a wire down the breather hole (how far in should it go) and replaced the seals on the speedometer drive. Can anybody suggest any other common place for the leak. The rear oil seal appears to be dry. Not having the garage space to remove the gearbox myself can anybody recommend a good Stag mechanic in the High Wycombe area?

what kind of overdrive is it ? A type or j type , mine is the later type and it leaked from the rectangular plate on the bottom of the overdrive there are about ten bolts round it , and Ive had my solenoid leak oil out through it.

Give the box a wipe and puff talc all over it. Look underneath again in a day or two and look for the slug trails. That's how I found out that my leak was coming from the A-type OD solenoid bracket.

Hi. That sounds like a good idea with the talcum powder. Went for a drive on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning there was quite a large puddle underneath the car-maybe 10cc or more. This doesn't happen all the time ;sometimes there are just a few drips which I can live with. Haven't been underneath to investigate yet but the puddle seems to be much further back than the drips.Comment
