    fusebox

    Hello everybody,

Recently I bought Stagweber's (Chris Spain) fusebox - the one with blade fuses. I did not get round to installing it yet. But I am wondering whether it would not be easier and more convenient, if I built in the new box from the front of the firewall (engine side) and not from the inside (under the dashboard).

    What do you think?

    Best wishes,
    Dieter - from Germany.

Dieter. Only a personal view, but "Easier and more convenient"? I think having all the connectors in the engine bay would look very untidy, and would need a cover of some sort, and changing a fuse on your knees, in the dark, at the back of the parcel shelf, on a wet night, would soon make you put it back as it was!
    Mike.

" at the back of the parcel shelf,"
Was something that got me when I was thinking of relocating the fuse box.

One thought is, the TR7 fuse box is located behind the clove box, with a removable plastic cover.

Mike, I think I did not express my views clearly enough: I mean installing the fusebox with the connectors towards the inside and the fuses towards the engine bay - just on the other side of the firewall using the same nuts, which are welded to the firewall.

        Best wishes,
        Dieter.

You will need to check the small print to make sure you don't invalidate the no quibble money back guarantee if it goes wrong....

It may still be under development

Dieter. Having looked again at your original posting, I can see that I was being stupid. I found it hard to understand why you wanted to put it in "Back to front"!
I have not seen one of these spade ones, but Dave says that is how they are meant to be fitted. Always best to follow the manufacturer's instructions!

It doesn't go "back to front". it goes in exactly as the original does. I'm not sure now as it has been a while, if it fits from inside the car(l believe so ) or from the engine compartment as Dieter would like to fit it. Anyway I found it to work really well. Just need to workout the fuse settings though.

I will get round to posting my bladded fuse box that's mounted next to the relay board easy to convert. Edd

Original way is mount it from inside the car with the fuses sitting/facing the engine bay.
There is also a plastic cover that goes over the fuse box fuses too.
Theoretically to protect the fuses from grime in the engine bay.

I would like to see that...

Is it easy to access without dismantling everything to check fuses?

Ok hope this picture is ok. The box i used is a off the shelf box only a few quid. It has removable covers that I will get round to labelling. I keep the original as reference. It's sits just right of the footwell and more by luck the dash tray kicks in allowing a lovely spot and easy access. I cut a piece of the footwell soundproofing to fit into the hole left inside the engine bay. The loom is original and simply diverted to this new position.
                        Hope this helps. Edd

Nice adaptation of a standard product there Edd.

Cheers guys. It's also easy to convert back should a resale want a standard box. I'm sure I'm not the first to do this but it's nice to have a reminder of the options. You can also keep an eye on the connections without stripping out anything and make taking off for gadgets easier.
