    Water Loss

My water loss is becoming serious a forty five minute drive today and I lost 1.5 litres It is not leaking visibly from joints or in the vee nor boiling over, temperature is normal and rock steady. I have a header tank with an alarm ( wont mention it again ) It was quite cold this morning when I got to the Concorde club show and despite 40 miles on the motorway my exhaust on tickover was showing water vapour as if the car was cold. I have little pressure in the system and no foaming in the cam covers , the oil is not showing any emulsion. The car runs perfectly and the tickover is normal. where do I start or should I try a bottled gasket sealer Steel seal or similar.

I would think that a cold system pressure test might show this for you ,check footwell carpets at front aren't wet from matrix leak also.
Beautiful early mk1 white tv8 mod? MGB GT and now looking for another V8

Most likely inlet manifold gaskets, water is getting drawn into the cylinder hence no leaks.

First time this happened to me I thought it was the LH head gasket as I was getting steam from the LH exhaust when the throttle was closed during gear changes when accelerating hard. In fact it was the extra inlet manifold vacuum sucking the water in.
Changing the head gasket cured the leak of course, as the manifold had to come off, but the inlet manifold gasket failed again within 12 months.

It was at this point I realised that unless you are extremely lucky, Stag inlet manifolds need to be hand fettled to fit properly and ensure reliability!

Thanks for you help, I popped over to Stag Classics at 4 marks and Pauls advise after looking at my setup was not to overfill the header and keep enough to silence the alarm. This I did and for the spirited 30 min drive home no water loss. I am at a loss to give a reason why it worked but it did and the level remained stable. I would have thought overfilling would mean water is ejected till the correct level is reached but that didn't happen, I cannot explain why it has settled unless there was a persistent air lock that has now cleared. I am sure I can now focus my paranoia on the next problem.
          Thanks Peter
