    After-fit legacy equipment

I've started tidying up the electrics and have come across two gadgets I'm struggling to get info on. Can anyone help please?

To start the engine I have to insert a flat rectangular plastic chip about 1 inch wide into a slot under the dash. The markings on the chip show the image of a car caught in some red crosshairs. The label on it reads "t-h-e immobiliser" and on one side the figure "1931". Google finds a company called Immobiliser Inc in Houston taken over by e-Power international inc in 2001 but then the trail goes cold. Later references to e-Power seem to be to a different company involved in alternative energy.

It also has an electronic ignition system called Piranha which Google found a few incomplete pages of instructions for.

I wonder if anyone has any information on these gadgets. I'm reluctant to have a go at them without as much info as possible. I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

    Cheers

P.S. I thought "legacy" was more polite than "old" or "obsolete" because both of those derogatory terms could equally apply to me

I think Pirahna became newronic but as always I could be wrong, try googling that.

You are right, Daddy, Newtronic was taken over by Luminition. Classic case of purchasing and killing your competition.

The only thing to watch out for if you're thinking of replacing the Piranha Electronic Ignition is that it used a custom base plate in the distributor that replaced the standard one. If you want to replace with a modern system then you either need to find one supplied with its own base plate, buy a replacement standard base plate or (as I had to do) 'modify' the custom base plate on the roadside in Dorset when the Piranha unit decides to give up the ghost.............

I have never heard of your immobiliser system, sorry.

I had an old Cobra Alarm / Immobilizer on my Stag when I first got it. It kept going off at Midnight ! So I Cut OUT the Siren one Midnight ! lol Then to my Horror I could not Start the car in the morning. Not surprisingly ! I phoned my Auto Spark chap who fitted an Electronic Ignition to the Stag and he Removed all the Immobilizer wires and taped it all nice and neatly back to Factory wiring. Best £30 I ever Spent !
Finally got Married on 27th June 2015.

I used to install "the immobilizer"
This is now obsolete , if it still works that's fine, however it's so old that it will fail soon!! Sorry to say this but it will,
If you are near the northeast I would happily look at it for free if not you will need an older auto electrician who remembers this system

I think I may have a complete Piranha set up, in my box on the shed - Stripped out a few years ago (if you need spares)
