Chrome Bumper Repair

Afternoon all

Whilst my chrome bumpers are generally in excellent condition, having had them stripped and replated some 7/8 years ago, the rear bumper is showing some signs of rust coming through at one of the side mounting points. There are also a couple of "waves" in the rear bumper which it would be great to eliminate.

I have done a forum search on this and whilst there is a lot about simply re-chroming bumpers there isn't a great deal on their repair. It would be great to find a company that could repair and then replate.

Doing a "google" i found http://www.chromerestorationspecialist.co.uk who seem to provide the service - has anyone used them and can comment on their costs and results ? Or can anyone make any other suggestions ideally for a company that is closer to Norfolk or at least the midlands so I could take the part and get a quote face to face ?

You could have a look at Peter's blog at LDPart - there's a firm there that he heavily endorses from his own experience on both repairs and quality of chroming.

Thanks for two good leads to follow up on, certainly if Peter is recommending them then thats a great start and it looks as though they are attending some events a little closer to me later in the year.

JD Wyatt is close, but I'm always concerned about companies that don't seem to have great presence, i.e. no website - have you used them before Nib - any feedback or is it just someone your aware of

Brake lever, exhaust bracket and coil cover chromed in 1980 when they had a unit at Barham and more recently rechromed my cruise lights.

My previous stag had a slight bend in it and I was pointed to contour autocraft as a potential repairer. Wouldn't be cheap but if it is an original bumper then you may wish to keep it rather than update.

The co that Peter recommends put a lot of chrome on so it can look a bit 'thick' Peter's words not mine but apparently that is how they were back in the day
