    Wiper won't switch off.

Morning all. My wiper will not switch off once it's been switched on. I have changed the switch. Eventually, I gave up and pulled the fuse. I discovered that a spare fuse had fallen inside the cover and was making contact between the wiper fuse and the next fuse along - to the point that cover had partly melted.

Took this out put wiper fuse back and she still won't turn off. If you switch off the ignition she does not park.

If she's left a while with the switch off she usually won't star the wipers until the switch is engaged whereupon she won't turn off again.

I believe that the circuit is permanent live feed through the ignition switch and the wiper switch simply earths? Any suggestions?

Mine does that quite often. Oddly, sometimes I can reset it by turning off the ignition, then back on again, and it stops. But then it will not switch off again once started. I believe it is caused by a faulty self-parking switch inside the motor casing. It is on my 'round-tuit' list.

When mine did that lt was the park contact in the motor. I slid the contact bit a little further along and it sorted out the problem.

Mine did that, it was the delay relay under the dash. Fixed that and all's well.
This only applies if yours is an early model with wiper delay.

Er, no, I should have written 'late' model with wiper delay.......

Mine is an Oct 76 build and has a wiper delay - do you think it's wrong?

The switch that controls the park for the wipers is under the motor, and can be adjusted by loosening the 2 fixing screws, the holes are slotted, then you can move it towards or away from the slide in the motor that makes the switch, if you take the top of the motor and remove the switch slide make sure you put it back in the right way or you will break the switch. don't ask how I know Twice!

Wiper delay is only on Mk II. Mk 1 just has a 'flick-wipe' when you pull the switch towards you.

As previous posts said, problem is almost certainly the parking switch inside the wiper. It's purpose is to keep the wiper going after you switch it off until it is parked. If it doesn't reach the switch, it won't stop. From the description of the symptoms, it is marginal.

Many thanks! This forum is such an invaluable resource. Still it's a nicer problem to have than my TR5 where they wouldn't switch on unless it wasn't raining. I eventually fixed it so I had two speed wipers - very slow and blown fuse!

I have exactly the same problem on my latest Stag, I don't think the slider is pressing the switch down quite far enough. It is also on my round tuit list.

I had same problem, wipers wouldn't turn off. I found the bracket at the end of the worm drive broken off, the worm drive was only 12 moths old, absolute rubbish quality compared to an original.

                      Me too !

One other small factor to consider re wiper motors is that the small (triangular ?) mark on the body of the motor should line up with the mark on the alloy top housing. The two long through bolts can allow a little bit of misalignment.

                      Cheers
