    Compact Drain Valve (engine oil)

    Hello everybody,

I have just ordered "Compact Drain Valves" from Femco in Holland. The ones for the Stag are item no. 7060010352 (3/8" x 18 NPT). You can order directly from their webshop ("www.drainplug.com") and pay via Paypal. Just enter the part number, although the Stag is not (yet) listed.

    Good luck,
    Dieter - from Germany.

Femco® has over 30 years of specialist expertise in the development and manufacturing of the high-quality oil drain plug and oil drainage systems. We aim to make your routine maintenance easier. We do this by producing oil drainage systems which enable you to perform an oil change in an efficient, safe and sustainable way at all your vehicles machines or hydraulic systems.

      Compact oil drain plug

The Compact is smallest oil drain plug we produce, and is the perfect choice for oil changes in tight spaces. The Compact oil drain plug only extends 12 millimetres, and is often used in vehicles with a low ground clearance such as cars, busses and motorcycles. You can install the Femco® Compact oil drain plug on any vehicle without worrying about the available space.

I guess in theory this should make drain downs easier and cleaner with less strain on the sump pan as well but i would be concerned that it also reduces the bore diameter will slow the flow and potentialy trap any harmfull solids you want to remove is this potentialy so Dieter i will stick with the old system of plug and ptfe for now.I have on ocasions thought of modifying the drain on the sump with a larger type drain and knife valve but it works now and never gives me any issues but i do have a magnetic sump plug similar to the old bmc types on fwd crabs this does seem to find some ferrous debris from time to time so deffinately a worthwhile addition.

Me too Steve, which I thought was a great idea. However, every time I drain there is a little bit of magnetic sludge attached and then I start thinking 'just WHERE did that come from ?'

It doesn't help the Stag paranoia

            Cheers

I thought the drain plug was BSPT x19 as opposed to NPT x 18

I really can't see the need for it for one oil change a year we had them fitted at work but we were changing engine oil every 12 weeks on a fleet of 2000 vehicles.

                      +1

And as also been said it reduces the hole size so restricts the flow of oil out of the sump. I always like to get the engine thoroughly warmed up so the oil is nice and thin then remove the sump plug so that the oil literally gushes out and flushes any debris out with it. You still have to get under the car and still have to catch the oil so apart from saving a few seconds with a spanner I personally fail to see the advantage. I've never had a problem getting the sump plug to seal so have never used PTFE tape on it either.

                      Just my 2p worth

I use a gearbox drain plug as that is the same thread but also had a long magnet in it. As Julian said, it always seems to have a little bit of ferrous stuff stuck to it! And, it has a hex head for easier removal!

                          Cheers,
                          Mike.
