    First breakdown

    Hi,

on last weekend we did a great trip - mostly top down - to the valley of the Altmühl. It was a great trip but ended with the first breakdown of our Stag on the route back home.

The breakdown was caused by a leak of the fuel pipe in the engine bay. The short hose, which connects the fuel pipes, slipped of one side of the pipe, leaving a long and wide track and a large puddle of fuel. Fortunately it didn't drip onto the exhaust.

So I called the ADAC (that’s the German version of AA) which was not able to fix the problem and had to tow the car.

Two weeks ago I had a problem with the RH carb leaking fuel into the V. I was able to fix it by flushing with fresh fuel. It seems to me that the leak was caused by a blocked valve.
Now I wonder if both problems are interrelated and only the result of an hidden underlying problem?

I will pick up the car on Saturday and hopefully I will get home the last 140 KM without problems.

    What do you think?

    Regards

Possibly the rubber pipe perishing due to ethanol in the petrol?

Sorry to hear that Gerd, but at least you got sorted out ok.

However, I was surprised that ADAC were not able to fix a petrol pipe that had come off ? - unless, as Neil has suggested, the pipe had perished ?

      Cheers

If they are like the British breakdown guys, many have no experience of cars older than they are! The default seems to be 'put it on a loader and deliver to a garage'.

My only call out to GEM was for a dead battery (alternator drive belt slipping) and the man brought a loader.....but I persuaded him to lend me his jump leads and started the car myself. To be fair, he did stick around until I drove away!

            Hi,

thanks for your suggestions. All petrol hoses in the engine bay were renewed two years ago. Maybe the garage missed this one. Would it be possible, that a fuel pump delivering with too high pressure leads to the described carb overflow and/or the pipe coming off?

After calling the hotline the service guy gave me a call and asked if the defect is repairable, because he has to choose the right car (service car vs. towing truck). He arrived in the service car and was a bit angry because he has to get back and use his truck.
