How to tell which carb spec I have?

Hi,

I was looking for new jets for my Strombergs, Burlen offers four different carb numbers for my 1972 build car.

The available build numbers are 3289, 3290, 3382 and 3425. These all use the same jet, and two different needles, 20217 or 20816.

How do I find which carburettors are fitted to my car, and more to the point, is there a way to match the correct carb spec to the engine?

Should be a tab on one of the screws that holds the dashpot onto the body of the carb with the relevant number stamped on (its a triangular affair usually about 8-10mm deep).

Failing that the needle number currently fitted should be stamped on the body of the needle (at least they are on my SU HS6 carbs). I'll try and put a pic on of the tab later if i can find one (we're moving house!!!)

Here you go. It is the brass tab attached to the carb cover screw. Many of these have gone AWOL over the years and are rarely seen in public:

I suspect it may not matter which you get, the differences in the needles are very likely to be minor.

I found one of the brass tags on one of the carburetters, lurking at the bottom. 3382L was written, on the RH carb! Anyway, I've now ordered the carb parts from Burlen along with a fuel pump rebuild kit. I'm looking forward to long winter evenings......
