Multi Car Insurance - good or bad?

    Hi

Just wondered if anyone has any experience, comments or views on an Admiral or similar multi-car insurance policy?

It looks like it might save me about 15% over four cars, including saving 10% on the Stag insurance.

Cover looks similar and it offers a longer duration for European cover, which is useful.

    Many thanks.

Looked at it a couple of times, but could never get the sums to add up! Always ended up more expensive than we were paying.

I have multicar with Admiral, 5 cars on it. I definitely saved money the first year, about 10% overall. BUT at every renewal I end up going on the internet and getting individual quotes from comparison sites then phoning up Admiral and spending an hour on the phone to get then to better the total. Every year their renewal is about 30% more than the sum of the cheapest quotes. Every year I phone them and get them to beat the total by about 5%. Its hardwork to be honest, made worse as you are doing all 5 cars at once so it takes nearly 5 times longer. Most insuarance renewals now seem to require you to phone up and haggle or move elsewhere.

The one big advantage was an accelerated NCD for the youngsters as their insurances came up for renewal they gave them a full year for what was only 6 months in one case.

One disadvantage is paying effectively 5 premiums in one go.

Not sure I would trust them insuring a classic. Personally prefer a classic specialist - rally cover, agreed value, salvage etc. I know some on here have insured their Stag through admiral but I don't think I would.

It works for me (3 cars) and they sorted agreed value on the Stag, and business mileage, without any problem.

I have just insured both our classics with Cherished. They apparently do combined classics policies. However had to insure seperately as Stag is in wifes name. Total of 2 premiums including legal assistance and agreed value was £210. Did not go for breakdown/recovery as this is fully covered in blanket RAC policy for any car I or wife happens to be driving or even a passenger in which costs less than £90 per year with NCD.

            Hi,

            Many thanks for the replies.

I have managed to knock another few quid off the quote and have also agreed that the Stag will be insured on an agreed value basis, which means I will send them five photos, pay them £10 admin fee and then argue that it is worth more than they suggest (or am I just being cynical......).

They did allow me 11 years NCB on a newly acquired and additional BMW, which made the whole thing worthwhile.....

            Regards,

            Andrew M
