    Seat refurb struggles

    Hi ,
Could anyone please help with some advice regarding refurbing my Mk2 seats I have bought new seat base covers from Aldridge and am really struggling with the bases and backs.
Main problem not knowing where to glue and where not to.trying to use old seat back covers with new foams
I get the advice about cling film etc ,but its just getting the things to look right.
Any advice tor tips would be very much appreciated,

P.S I also have a seized recline mechanism on drivers side ,any tips for freeing up?

    Hi

if I remember correctly there are some strips of material hanging down on the inside of the base cover, you need to cut a slot into the base foam where it starts to rise at the front. The material then goes through this slot, pull it taught and using the clips you took off the old cover attach it to the underside of the seat frame. I think i glued the sides and the flutes to stop the cover moving.

I think the sides of the back rest should be glued, can't help with the recline mechanism, sorry

If you look in the technical section, there's a write up by Chris (Vmad) that should help. If you still need advice then come back on here - I'm sure we can help.

      Cheers

I dont know if you have access to the tech section as a trial user?

Takes ages to explain all you need to know. Main point about the base is to glue only along the sides of the middle section of the base. A strip of glue about 3in wide where the middle section meets the top/sides (difficult to describe) and let it dry before proceeding. You can also glue the rear where it wraps around the frame, as well as using clips. Don't put too much tension on the pull-down strips, but plenty of tension front to back will get rid of creases.

Seat back is more tricky and depends on what foams you use? Mk2 Cover is held by clips not glue except the bottom/side flaps. Pull down and get the side flaps over the ends of the frame first - then you know you have it centralised. Check that holes for catch and headrest are in the right location before clipping everything up.

Take your time and dont try to rush it. Good luck and welcome to the madhouse.

              Chris,Thank you,think I maybe k with the bases now.

The seats I bought were sold needing refurb,(surprise surprise),They came with separate foams for top of seat and the vertical foams(from Ebay I think) these form the bolters.the seat back foams and straps seem ok.
The plan with the seat backs was to try to peel the cover from the rear to expose the sides and top an try to fit the side bolster foams and top like that,ie cover just peeled back without removing completely.
Any Tips greatly appreciated Chris,I know you do some upholstery and am grateful for your considered reply
              Regards Julie
