New Wiring for Upgraded & Repositioned Alternator

I know this subject has been dealt with before but I cannot find the right thread! Maybe all that needs to be done is to point me to the right one!
I have bought an upgraded alternator from EJ Ward and repositioned same to the left hand side. A new extended harness was also purchased. Fitting the alternator is a doddle but the problem lies with the wiring. The new harness has 4 wires, 2 thick brown ones, and two slim ones, brown/yellow and brown. I remembered from the thread that I read that the two thick brown ones simply attach to the two old brown ones (in no particular order i think). This leaves the two slim wires.

I also have two wires from the old harness - one had an extension that led to nowhere (wire is simply dangling), the other (the bottom one in the picture) was attached to the old alternator harness.

So the question is what are the slim wires for and proper way to connect to the old harness. Thanks

Depends on the alternator.
The original alternator required both, being 'battery sensed', but most replacements are 'machine sensed' and one of the wires becomes redundant, it regulates itself from its own output terminal...like in your case with the spare unconnected wire.

The two thick brown wires + battery lead, the thin brown/yellow ign light, thin brown exciter wire not needed. Graham
