Does anyone happen to know the torque wrench settings for Spax Adjustables? I have lost the bit of paper that came with mine!

      Dave.

From memory I don't think a torque figure is given by Spax. I damaged the thread on one of mine, I was tightening with a 6" spanner and so was nowhere near the torgue level in the ROM. On investigation, the thread had not been cut to the end of the shoulder and the nut was mangling the thread as it did not have a proper stop. I cleaned up the threads with a die and used full nuts instead of the 1/2 nuts supplied. They have the advantage that they spread the load over more threads and cover all the exposed thread preventing rust. Worth checking that the nut runs right up to the shoulder, as the metal is very soft. I will try and dig out the instruction sheet if you like.

        Hi John,

Thanks for the offer but after a good deal of digging around in my lounge and I found it. The nearest torque setting it gave was 50NM for a M12. The Shock is 3/8" which is about 9.5mm. I used the thin nuts supplied and I initially set the torque wrench to 30NM and guess what...I stripped the threads. Rubbish! I didn't even reach the shoulder on the end of the threads. (The threads were sufficiently formed). I used a full nut and torqued that up to 40NM and put a full nyloc nut on after it so it isn't going to go anywhere!

        Regards

        Dave

          Well "The Beast" is back!!!

I got the brakes bled yesterday and tidied up a few odds and ends today and took her out for a spin. I clocked up 50 miles and nothing has fallen off yet. The brakes are better and the twitch has gone. I had the back step out on a roundabout attempting to test that . Calmed down a bit after that one, well it has been two months and I was itching to get back behind the wheel. So much for the initial plan of completing it in a week!

Still a few odd tweaks to do namely, put the tonneau drain tubes back through the floor, change the brake fluid in the front half of the car, clean up the hood well/rear seat area and put the rear seat back in. Yea!

            Hi Dave.
Sorry to hear that you had similar problems. I tidied up the threads with a die and all was well. Seems to be a design issue with the Spax units. I am sure we are not the only ones to screw up the threads. Glad that you have sorted it.
            John.

Were you at Brands at the forum meet last year? There was another '666' there but I didn't see the driver.
