    Seat restoration

    Hi All,

The questions keep coming so sorry if this has been asked before I'm just useless when it comes to search engines.

As the dash is now well on the way to being repaired, I had a look at the seats yesterday and the stuffing is crumbling away. So asked her ladyship if i could spend a bit more and get the seats done (she said yes cos the seats are bloody uncomfortable, not surprising really as the side supports are no-longer there as far as i can tell).

so question is "where to get the swabs etc for the seats" I have looked on ebay/aldridge/rimmer/paddocks etc but there is a massive price difference on some of this stuff, so there must be good and bad stuff out there.

All help and any links to previous subjects welcome.

I have not noticed much difference in the base foams from different suppliers, but the backrests are the ones to be careful with. Aldridge foams are not cheap but not too difficult to fit and the shape is very good. But there are cheaper foams that come as a kit of pieces, and some forum members have used them, but I suspect they are trickier to fit well.

Its a tough one, there is a lot of money involved here and I wont see short of £200 so need to get it right. I have restored a set of Spitfire seats before so I know the process, just the material needs to be cut and formed well. I will see what the rest have to offer.

Any views on the materials if you have used them?

Got my seat foams from Stuart at SOC, they were excellent.

Can I just ask, even though there are several threads about seat restoration I would like a recommendation if anyone has one. I suffer from the front seat, side bolsters having crumbled away. I don't want to spend more than I have to but I want a job that I can do with as little fuss as possible and as comfortable as possible and I don't mind paying the extra to get this ( but I can't go to the prices the various places want to do it for me.

So the choice I am down to is

Abridge's around £70 for each side and this looks a comprehensive kit
Classicbritishsportscartrims (Mike Jasper )on eBay, around £60 for both seats
Robsport around £65 for each seat.

Have you used any of the above, if so having done so were they a good fit or did you wish you had paid more ? Any other comments or thoughts appreciated

Mark - what did you do in the end and Nib I looked at SOC's website but it didn't list these parts, how much were they ?
