    Speedo cable

Renewed my speedo cable today as the old one broke.

The claw that holds the drive into the gearbox housingis held by a bolt that was only finger tight, and there was a bit of oil about. Putting the little bolt back was really difficult, but I managed it in the end after releasing the back gearbox mounting, but was unable to tighten it and the claw fully, and there is still an oil leak there.

Does anyone know what the thread is, I think I need a shorter bolt because I think it is either bottoming, or cross threaded?

There was no gasket either and I can't see how just a clamp fit is supposed to seal this aperture?

Sorry to ask, but the manuals are no help at all

    Hi Al,

Can't help with your problem, but I can offer a tip. Don't throw out the old speedo cable inner, assuming there is a useful length left after it broke. They are excellent for leading new wires through awkward places, including rubber bulkhead grommets. Also useful for domestic wiringif you need to runcables through stud walling or behind 'dot 'n dab' plasterboard.
