Thanks for all the replies. Something for me to think about.

What I don't want, especially in my daily drivers, is wires dangling everywhere. Whatever I fit will be semi-permanent as I will want to hide the wires away as much as possible.

Thats the problem Dave, I have a speed camera detector and sat nav and the wires are a pain, no matter which way I try to hide them plus an extension 12v socket wire.

You can get hard wire kits for mini and micro usb, which have built in voltage stabilisers. Plus a add on fuse, can't remember the name but plugs into an existing blade fuse folder, holds the existing fuse and has its own fuse for new device. Saves cutting into wiring of moderns. I tuck the wiring behind windscreen trip, and down A plller.
Or run it though the T bar, not necessarily an easy fit, if the T bar is difficult to refit.

However I do know of one person who has lost their licence as a result of their own dashcam footage - knocked out and couldn't hit the delete button - so beware!

That's one reason why I haven't bothered, and certainly not one with GPS data! GPS data is only good to prosecute one self...how fast were you going sir?
I guess really you want a real stealth install, so only you know about it, when YOU want it!
