    Clutch Plate Question

    Evening all,

If a clutch plate has a small amount of movement in one of the 6 (is it 6?) springs will that make the clutch notch or judder or will it work OK?

    Thanks

    Paul

I'd have said ok. I remember often seeing one, or more, springs rattling loose.

    Cheers

It's not ideal Paul - this is the time where sorting the clutch is easy, so why penny pinch?

          Hi Russ,

Thanks as always for your input. It's less penny pinching than not wanting to waste something if it is serviceable - I own an Eco company don't forget 😎

Paul. We all know what a pain the Stag clutch can be, even when all the components appear to be ok. In spite of your eco credentials, I think on this occasion it would be unwise to put this one back. You could always offer it for recycling! The springs are there for a good reason, and will only get looser with use. Get a decent new centre plate from an experienced supplier(!) and make sure you have dowel bolts to align the gearbox when re-fitting it.
            Mike.

I replaced my clutch recently whilst replacing the spigot bush that was well worn and just beginning to break up.

When I pulled out the box I was amazed that my clutch had been performing perfectly. The bell housing was FULL of oil and both clutch plate and flywheel were heavily impregnated with oil and yet I'd never experienced any judder or any other problems - no smell either.

Maybe that's the answer to clutch problems - pour in a pint of oil every so often

              Cheers
