Triumph in their ultimate wisdom did make a light for the heater/dash controls but for some strange reason only our US cousins got it. They are sometimes available.

I have one of these shrouds somewhere - don't go searching for one if you have a rhd car as they are moulded to fit the lhd dash curvature.
I mounted a short strip in the coin tray as per Julian's post. Perfect fit and lit up the heater controls well, unfortunately I could not get rid of reflection in windscreen so ditched them. They need to shine down and be shrouded as per US cars, although a smaller neater shroud could be made as LED strip is much more compact.
For those of you that remember Martin, he found a sort of chrome post/mount that had a LED that had a narrow beam that illuminated the heater controls and was mounted on the centre console woodwork.
