    Door shutting

Can anyone help please? My drivers door, always closed flush with the door pillar, but I have realised it was only closing on the first latch of the lock. I have adjusted the catch on the door pillar by moving it closer to the outer edge of the door pillar and now although the door closes on the second latch it is pulled in about ¼” beyond the door pillar. However, when on the first latch both door stand proud of the body by the same amount but the passenger door is flush when shut on the second latch. There is no further movement available for the drivers door catch to move any closer to the outside of the door pillar. Can anyone suggest a solution?

I hope that the above makes sense.

    David.

Well the silence has been deafening! While there may not be anyone with an answer, it would have been nice to at least have someone respond to my post. We are told that this forum is a mine of information and people are friendly and always ready to help. But it would appear that in my case this is not so. This is the second post I have made, the previous ending with a sarcastic response. Oh well, now we know why people are not bothering with the forum, it only works if you are one of the chosen few and you are in the "I hate a specific trader" club. Anyway thanks to the people that did at least take the time to view my post.

        Also just read this one.
Could it, possibly, be one of each type?

First time I have seen your post , like many I dont spend every day looking on here.
However I would think it wise to compare the depth of the latch and the catches on both sides of the car on the door and the pillar. If they are the same , I would be looking at the door itself - it may be that it has had major surgery.

Oh dear! There are ways of asking for help, not sure your way will get the results you want.

I admit to reading your post and had no idea what your door lock problem is, so did not reply. I could have replied that I don't have an answer but I'm not in the game of maximum posts.

I believe this is the "sarcastic" post you referred to: It has a jiggle pin that you err jiggle. Sorry but this is the correct term for the part and not at all sarcastic in my book.

Having checked out that response, I would certainly not describe it as 'sarcastic'.

Ok, you didn't get a response this time but your reply hardly endears you to those who may be able to help !

                That would have been me.
I certainly didn't mean it to be sarcastic, it was meant to be light hearted, to the point and hopefully of help.
Sorry I can't help with your current problem, how about some pics which may help someone identity some possible solutions?

WOW It is a very friendly and knowledgeable forum and sometimes posts get missed. So Dave when you have stopped throwing abuse, bear in mind that this forum is not a subscribed workshop manual and members give their time and help free of charge, I fail to see how you think that your aggressive attack would get you the result you are looking for. I would suggest that you take a deep breath apologise and start again re pose your question in a pleasant manner and you may be surprised by an equal pleasant/helpful response. Regards Graham

                          Hi,

You say you have adjusted the door pillar catch out as far as it goes. Have you tried adjusting the door catch itself? This is also on captive plates that allow some movement.

Without photos we don't know if you have Mk1 or Mk2 locks, or how big the problem is.

PS I am posting this whilst on holiday in Sorrento, so that goes to show how helpful most of the members can be.....
