Don't want to blabber the wiring / radiator etc when spraying the area.

The light bowls were not fitted with gasket which I will fit & were bolted instead of using the square plastic fixings ( as per grill ) which I will also fit.

Questions is - when the plastic plugs are fitted they sit proud of the panel so the gasket won't sit flat against the panel - so do you make the hole in the gasket larger so the plastic square face is clear of the gasket & the bowl face will sit tight on the gasket & panel ?

when i have fitted the plastic plugs for head lamps, they only sit proud of the panel by 1-2mm,which didn't affect the gasket

Yep, I'd go along with that. I seem to remember that the rubber was thick enough and soft enough to absorb the small amount that the plug protrudes by.

Ha ! Tell me about it

I ended up refurbishing my headlamp bowls after just changing a bulb that had blown. However, with them out I could see what the front side of the inner wheel arch was like and it needed rust repairs - whilst I was cleaning the area up the front of the wheel arch I noticed rust on the rear and attacked it with a screwdriver. The rusty area got bigger and bigger and went down to the back of the wheel arch.........then into the sill......back along the sill......into the front outrigger

I managed to repair it all but it all started with just a blown bulb . I hope you don't find the same !

        Cheers

top tip, screws that hold the grills into place can be a swine to work with. an inch of insulating tape folded into quarters with a 2mm hole drilled / punched through the middle will hold the screws in place while you manoeuvre the grills past paintwork etc

Good idea - even better, I reckon, with a small square cut from a plastic ice cream or butter container.

            Cheers

+1. Been doing it that way for years. It takes only a few minutes to replace all the grille sections.

BluTack for screws and copper slip for nuts (a dollop in a socket will hold a nut in place for a long time)
I ordered a set of new gaskets when refitting the lights and found they were thick enough to compensate for the slight protrusion of the nylon blocks.
