    Hard Top

I'm just making a harness to attach to my garage roof to suspend the hard top ( no room to stand it anywhere) It'll be made from proper lifting straps so no issues regarding their ability to hold the weight , but has anyone any idea what a hard top weighs ?

At a guess, about 350 lbs.

After doing a search on Google.

Im sure I have two roof hanging cycle harnesses, they basically attach to the ceiling/joists and can lift quite a lot - on ropes pulleys etc and with hooks.

I reckon these would be ideal for a hardtop bearing in mind one of the bikes we hung up weighs 15+ kilos

Pop round and have a look if interested, I'm only in Kineton - beer voucher will do even though medication precludes me from drinking until December!

            Oi!

            Sorry, did I say 350lbs, I meant 175kgs .

All I know is they are bl**dy heavy and got that weight from deducting the cars weight without hardtop from the car fully loaded with hardtop. Don't blame me, blame the internet!

If you look in the ROM, page 04-3, the Basic unladen is around 1250kg, the Kerb weight (including optional extras like auto box, hard top, aircon) is 1350kg.
So that means the hard top can't be more than 100kg, and having just fitted mine, I'd say closer to 60kg.

Just fitted mine today. Final acknowledgement that Summer is over I guess . Like Julian, I'd rather drive mine with the hard top on than the soft top up and if we have a nice day it only takes a few minutes to winch it off again.

Hehe, I love asking a dopy question , and the watching WW3 kick off . Many thanks for all the advice , the plan is I'm heating and carpeting the garage ( just got an old carpet for a tenner of freebay) . Stag is used two/three times a week , about 4000 mile a year , but I want to get the hard top off as much as possible . My old Herald convertible was used for ten years with the top down , every day , when it was dry , even in the middle of winter

Lots of posts on this theme. If you try a search you will find it normally quoted at 45 kg, approx 100lbs.

Get a 12v winch off of Ebay. Fix it to the roof beam, Put an old style roof rack bar about 2" behind the front of the side window and you can put the roof on or off in a couple of mins....simples
