    BCC brakes in this months Stag Mag

    Interesting read.
    Just find it strange to have half the pedal movement before activation.
    If all the air is out, new master cylinder, where is the hydraulic fluid going? the caliper pistons must be moving a massive amount before the pads are making contact with the disc!
    Both last month's, and this month's article, there is no reference to whether it's just a new replacement caliper, or a new caliper and disc combination, and if a new disc, whether it is solid or ventilated!?
    Not sure it is a good advertisement for them to be honest how it is going.

      I believe from a previous article that BCC just sell replacement calipers. Very surprising that they couldn't sort it quickly as Stag front brakes are very basic. Let's hope they can sort it soon as we don't want half braked kits for our cars.

        I don't really see the point of just changing the calipers without going to vented discs.

        A bigger pad might have a bit more heat capacity to resist fade, but I still managed to lose one centre cap from my Minilite replicas and loosen the other due to the temperature of the wheel centres when I kept fading the standard pads on the track day I did in the Stag last year.
        Bigger or uprated pads will resist fade, but without dissipating the extra heat from the disc there are likely to be problems further down the line.

          At a guess I would say that this is because the surface area of the master cylinder piston is far less than that of the combined four slave brake cylinders, so you need a relatively large travel of the master cylinder piston to achieve the required travel in the slave cylinders.

            Sounds about 100% right.

            'Lets add some unecessary stuff.' that isn't shown to be calculated to improve the car, just the sellers coffers.
            Lets see the areas compared if thats not the case.

            Motivation is normally that the unrestored 35 year old stuff simply isnt up to the job.....often it is, it just needs to be restored.

            IIRC the stag brakes were actually based on MK1 transit.

            Once they are restored they give quite a modern feel / performance as standard, certainly for normal road use.

              I can understand the areas relationship, but this doesn't appear to be a problem with wilwood/Jag 4 pot calipers I believe that have been fitted to stags.
              Also as stated, if the standard disc is being used too, why bother?

                  No, I have the standard servo.
                  When I rebuilt her fitted a brand new master cylinder, new rear brake cylinders, new drums, discs and rebuilt calipers. Then also having new brake lines, filled with silicon brake fluid.
                  Had no problems, with ptfe/stainless steel brake lines aswell been faultless, don't really complain at the standard braking.
                  Had the front discs drilled when new that might help a bit. This before any other alternatives were available.
                  Having 4 pot ventilated front brakes certainly won't do any harm, but if the standard set up is in prime condition, it's well up the job too.

                    I have a standard brake set up. Front clippers restored, new discs and pads and also braided lines, re con master cylinder. My brakes are fine, plenty of feel and they stop! Which is nice!

                    My my calipers are Red so that must make a difference

                      Can't remember TH ever having to put someone else's callers on his racing stag, just properly operating standard components with vented discs and quality pads.
                      Ive never had a problem with my standard set up just aero quip hoses and mintex pads - work perfectly!
                      I'd have been a bit concerned at the outcome of the latest 'test' if I'd been the makers of these new calipers and seeing the article going in the magazine pretty much killing the concept outright.......

                        Are you using the M1144 Mintex pads?
                        I was also surprised that the article was not held pending solution. Seems we cannot name and shame but the mag effectively can

                          Happy with my wilwood set up with vented discs, survived spirited drive around Spa without cooking them unlike uncle Bobs

                          The whole artical in the mag does seem a bit "Fred Karno" . Someone should buy them an eezibleed

                            Yes, mine were shot at SPA, standard calipers with Mintex pads. Plenty left on the pads but they did fade and smoke badly. Must try and upload the video sometime.
                            This was onetime when a manual would have been better than the ZF box
