How do you get them apart just using a Claw Hammer Alan

There's a pair of pliers hidden under the hammer!

have the floats been fitted "upside down" ?

No needle valve fitted?

hammer is for drifting out the main jet
pliers are just lazy and there for no reason
floats are correct way round
height setting the float will be difficult with no needle valve fitted

I have spent a while looking for the hammer and pliers. It's not until you open the whole file they appear. Explains why I was hopeless at spot the ball

I could be wrong Julian but it looks like it's been "Mushroomed" on the end in the picture when fitted

well spotted
its been hammered into the carb body and therefore ruined

Hope the guy that attempted the self repair is not going to attempt anything more serious - like brake callipers.....
