    track control arm

trying to replace the rubber bush in drivers side track control arm, not having much success, do I need a press. Also just had a look at the poly bushes and they look as though they will go in easier. any ideas would be helpful, thanks

Did one of mine recently-just lubricated lightly with some silicone grease then squeezed in using my 6inch vice-went in fine.
just rubber one, don't know about poly ones how easy they go in

I'd fit a poly one. Easy to fit as the bush and centre are separate. Fit the bush, then push the centre in. They will also last for years. You'll probably be doing the rubber one again in a year or so.

Poly bushes are a very worthwhile modification in this position in my opinion. They are very easy to fit, as they come in two halves, the metal tube being a separate part. You first fit the bushes, then push the tube through them. The original "Metalastic" rubber bush required the rubber to be distorted to allow the arm to move. The polybush arrangement works more like a bearing, and the ones on my car have been there for years, and are as sound as the day they were fitted. If you are struggling to remove the old ones, I usually set fire to them (!) till they become soft enough to push out with. Clean up the hole in the arm before fitting the new ones.
        Mike.

Did mine a few years ago, from memory I drilled around the bush with a 5mm drill, and pressed old one out and new one in with a bench vice

My poly bushes were 1 piece, which needed just a help to start in the arm with a vice or similar then the sleeve was pushed in after as Dave said, you can make a little puller/press from sockets and threaded rod or like the one I have done, plenty of lube is the key.

              My post got lost again!!!

My local garage fitted mine and I painted them after they shot blasted them. Poly bush was a one piece.

There is a Stag spares company (and I can't think who they are) that do a powder coated arm with new poly bush on exchange basis that I was nearly tempted to use. Worth considering.

I use a length of all-thread, large washers, small washers, and an off-cut of steel tube from a local tube fabricator.
Always use poly for every suspension component.

Fairy liquid works if you haven't silicone grease. A G clamp if you haven't a vice.
In my recent experience of polybushing almost everything on my car, some are an absolute b*****d to fit. You can do the same bush on the opposite side and it just slides in.
