Maybe a silly question but is a straight six gearbox the same as a stag one ???

Im removing the engine and box this weekend and can see the box it bolted directly to the engine and wondered if it's different to a stag box ?

Can't work out from your photo but I would guess someone has put the straight six in there after having a load of agg with his original engine, the straight six apparently bolts straight on to the stag box, no mods needed, the box should have a LD prefix I think like the diff.

Not sure about no Mod's Mark, I think the first motion shaft is different. I know Russ changed one back for someone in the Summer who was going back to TV8.

Perhaps look into it a bit more Darren as Ian says about Russ having change something to convert back to original engine.
LD is a stag box so if it has this it might be worth checking to make sure it's still standard.

First motion shaft, clutch bearing carrier and cross shaft are different iirc, everything else should fit a stag. stag LD boxes had bigger bearings ?!? or did I dream that

Stag box first motion shaft is longer than the saloon/TR6 boxes. You can't stand the Stag box vertically on the bellhousing flange on a flat surface, but you can do that with the others.

Not only are is the input shaft of a different length, as Dave says, but the splines are also spaced differently so a 2500 box will not fit on a stag clutch plate. Richard is right (from recent first hand knowledge on my car) that the bearing carrier is different. X shaft is the same. Basically Darren it won't fit a stag without significant modification. Sell it on eBay there's a good demand.

As I say Darren LD is the prefix for a stag box, if it has something like ME on the side hey guess what it's not stag box.

Plenty of TR chaps who would be interested in a 6 pot box like Paul said. Paul you got rid of the boat anchor yet?
