    reinforced quill shaft housing

    Hi All

The November edition of Triumph World magazine, in the article reading reassembly of the rear suspension of a stag, it mentions fitting a reinforced quill shaft housing as offered by Southern Triumph Services. Has anybody on here fitted one of them?

    Regards

    Bruce

P.S. Welding work commences on my car tomorrow. Chap reckons there is about three days work involved so shouldbe done within a couple of weeks.Painting of the underneath can then continue.

    Hi Bruce

When I rebuilt my PI Estate I welded reinforcing plates on the quill shaft housing as certainly on these cars they can tend to snap off! The quill shaft then rubs on the housing, becomes red hot and sets fire to the car:shock:My Stag also has them, but these were already fitted when I bought the car. Not sure if the same applies to the Stag, but it is definately worth fitting the reinforced item to the 2.5. As myStag was maintained by Southern Triumph Services before I bought it, it probably has one of theirs fitted. It is very neatly done and powder coated, and is just a straight swap for the original item. Hope this helps a little. Good luck with the welding!

    Regards

Thanks Brian. I have sent an e-mail to Southern Triumph asking how much the modified item is on a service exchange basis.

              Hi Brian

Opened out seams where the floorpans meet thecills are now sorted plus the two holes in the front floor pans. That just leaves the bootfloor to do. On closer inspection today, the metal is waffer thin and a blunt screwdriver makes mince meat of it.So it has been decided to fit a new one whichI will be ordering it from Paddocks on monday.
