Is the choke switch located near the radio aperture behind the choke knob? If yes, is it accessed via said radio aperture?

Yes, if you can get the bezel off, it's possible to push the whole choke cable head forward so that it then dangles into the footwell. Disconnect battery first or it is likely to blow a fuse as it touches the footwell lights. Incidentally, as I couldn't tighten up that bezel enough, I tightened up the nut on the inside of the console; very difficult to get a spanner on, but the tool used to adjust valve clearances on a Ford Pinto engine fitted perfectly as though it had been made for the job! (this was, however, all done with the console pulled out a bit)
Is there a tool or trick to grip those bezels without the risk of slipping off and putting a score in the veneer?

Hats off to the guys who do this through an aperture - I couldn't manage that with my sausage fingers and as Zoony the Lazoon wasn't around I ended up half disasembling the console!

The upside to that was when I fitted a Volvo ht I was able to use choke feed & light as a low level warning.

Drew- I've seen an advert for a tool specifically to undo the bezels. Bear in mind that similar ones were quite common on many BL products.
Having said that, I've always managed with a small electrical screwdriver, sideways into one of the grooves and tapped sharply to just do the initial loosening.
Cheers
