Yes - I use a multi-meter to test the battery. Have brought the spare battey downstairs now from the storeroom where I kept it, but it will be going dark soon so not going to put it in the Stag engine bay until tomorrow. Thanks for the offer of help in tracing the fault if it isn't the battery - may get back to you tomorrow or the day after after seeing what happens after I have connected it. Never heard the term "parasitic current draw" before. Can't see it being the new car audio system I have just fitted as I disconnected the main live "constant" feed to it yesterday when the battery was reaing 12 volts and before it dropped to 7 volts.

On another subject I have broken one of my New Year Resolutions already - I said I wasn't going to drink as much this year, but when I walked into the Bar at lunchtime for a late breakfast (I only got out of bed at 11.30am), they had already pulled me a pint before I asked. I did order a coffee to go with it though and with my bacon & eggs on toast. Having a sip of coffee followed by a sip of beer was very nice and after the bacon and eggs my headache had gone. Going to stay in tonight though and watch a bit of Tele for a change, and still got some nice wine left in the fridge to go with the nibbles I will probably eat watching Dicensian and Sherlock.

It's quite easy, all you need to do is connect the meter in series between the battery post and a lead (you can do it either side) and have the meter on Amp's (most have a range up to 10A) With everything off it should a show few mA at most. DO NOT TRY TO START IT with the meter connected.
