    Mine came from LD.

JWIS is pronounced something like ifis in German so the name does sometimes get spelled differently. Even the manufacturers have started spelling it IWIS!

Also worth searching under IWIS, something to do with tge German language and J's and I's. Hopefully one of our German friends could explain.

It is definitely IWIS not JWIS, see http://www.iwis.de/en/engine-systems/company/

I think the abreviation comes from the founder's name Johann Winkelhofer Söhne (=sons). But JWIS is unpronounceable in German.

BTW: Be careful with the terminus "German chains": Look at this ebay search for a BMW timing chain (104 links) which fits into the Stag: http://www.ebay.de/sch/i.html?_from=...32176&_sacat=0

The result shows several German chains from wellknown companies like Febi Bilstein, Ruville, FAI, SWAG, Tawa etc.--but who is the manufacturer? Or one could buy this chain directly from BMW (approx. €95 !).

Thanks Klaus, I was relying on my memory of pronunciation from when I lived in Petershausen, near Munich years ago. But that would be Bavarian pronunciation, wouldn't it?

"company founder Johann Baptist Winklhofer casually referred to the launch of his first product, a high-performance precision chain bearing the J.W.I.S. (Joh. Winklhofer & Söhne) brand"

When I changed my chains I bought 2 sets, one German IWIS, the other standard ROLON(I think)
Comparing the 2 sets together it was obvious that the engineering of the German chains was vastly superior so on they went and the others went on Ebay.
            Best wishes

I gave my new Rolon chains to someone at the last SOC meeting. Couldn't be bothered to put them on eBay. I only got them because I got an offer on a set of chains/sprockets/tensioners/gaskets so the Rolons were effectively no cost to me. Hope they last a while on the chaps Stag!

The Chain Man was recommended by IWIS years ago:

IMHo Probably best to avoid conveyer / industrial chain suppliers, unless thats what you need their chain for.
Reason is, that they normally want to sell 000s of metres / 000s of sprockets & the technology isn't really that similar. (speed & torque spikes from crank)

Iwis / Jwis (!) is the defacto car industry 'primary' drive chain company though, although they make both, i believe.
