Anyone fitted one of these and are they worthwhile? http://cmengines.co.uk

I would be concerned about its potential to hinder the flow of coolant

They say they don't and have a few other advantages but!

Hi DJS, With a chemically cleaned and thoroughly flushed cooling system, including the radiator and block drains and a quality anti-freeze at the right percentage it isn't necessary. The coolant in my Stag's radiator is clean and clear apart from the colour from the anti-freeze/inhibitor.
        Cheers Ian A

I'm sure someone posted about these on here in the last month or two.

          Cheers

Could have been me but a long time ago, not sure though , I have seen them before and they were quite expensive for what they are. The idea is good but could it hinder the flow once it stared to collect the debris

If they don't get clogged, then either you don't need one, or it isn't working! If they do collect "Stuff" then you will need to regularly check it or it will restrict the coolant flow. I don't think a Stag is a good candidate!

I suppose if you drain and replace the coolant every year, you don't give the engine much chance to accumulate debris.

Not meaning to be thick here, but where would debris come from?

To my knowledge, debris is what happens when the coolant loses its anti-rust effectiveness and begins to attack the alloy of the cylinder head, leading to microscopic flakes. Hence the requirement to change the coolant/anti freeze every year.

Jeff, unless you have a new rad, heater matrix, and the engine has been stripped and chemically cleaned you are always going to have some form of debris present from corrosion in the cars lifetime.

At work we had a program where ever few years vehicles were connected up to a cooling system dialysis machine which flushed the system (at pressure and thermostat removed) with a clean water and chemical solution. the machine was hooked up for about 2 hours and recycled the fluid around the system, trapping anything that got flushed out in a reservoir with a window in it enabling you to see what was happening. you would be amazed at the amount of 5hit that got flushed out.

                        Like this.

Thanks everyone for your opinion's, good points all round, still undecided but I think it wouldn't do any harm, if system is clean then shouldn't get restricted, but if it does trap some debris then it would be easy to see, remove and clean.
It's also makes a good window to see what's going on.
                            Cheers all
