    oil pump pressure relief valve

I am expieriencing strange oil pressure readings oil pressure goes up to about 25lb and then dosent move either up or down whatever the revs.Taken pump off (only 2500miles old)everything seems ok apart from the relief valve itself. The piston which the spring pushes against has a tiny cut out approx 1mm deep and 3mm wide should it be there ?The engine has been rebuilt and sounds really good has anyone come across this before

Sounds like a stuck gauge to me..... take the gauge off and carefully check it can read over 25psi with an airline

Guage is brand new and is mechanical fitted in place of the electric one which i thought was faulty. guage does return to zero when engine turned off so its not stuck
