    AS Martin Jackshaft/waterpump

As Martin has put a question in the technical section about the stag jackshaft/waterpump but has had no replies.
Would it be better in the main section?
Apologies if it has been sorted.

Martin the backlash of half a tooth sounds excessive to me. I had a failure of the water pump shaft which eventually caused it to 'jump teeth'. It was caused by a batch of shafts that were not hardened. Even after failure the teeth on the jackshaft were perfect.
Attached is a pic showing 2 shafts, the 'soft' failed one and a replacement. You can easily check the hardness by several strokes with the corner of a needle file on a non functional area. The file cut into the 'soft' shaft but just skated across the correctly hardened shaft.
I would urge anyone to do this test on any pump they are replacing.

PS I couldn't reply to a post in the technical section, perhaps its a feature?

He did manage to post the same question on the main forum: http://socforum.com/forum/showthread...ight=jackshaft to which I replied, however that was four days ago, since when there have been no further posts

      Cheers
