    Cable fastening in engine bay?

Can anyone tell me how the cable is supposed to be secured in the RHS of the engine bay? Which are the correct clips?

The harness on mine is flapping about and rubbing on the lower part of the steering column. I think a short circuit is quite likely.

Anyone able post a photo or two?

If I'm thinking of the right thing, you need some of these: http://www.ldparts.co.uk/shop/shop.p...05fa3b59ef7e1b

As a temporary fix you could use a cable tie looped through the holes

Thanks Julian, but mine is loose towards the bulkhead ( the other side of the washer bottle!). Do the same clips fit there as well?

I think the holes for the clips are are pretty specific. You can readily identify them as the holes are about 30mm apart.

            Yep, same clips.

You should see two holes about 1" apart at various places along the inner wing, just above the chassis legs, on both sides and above the transmission tunnel where a loom crosses from the right to the left hand side of the engine compartment. These holes are for these clips although not all are used. However the run of the loom varies slightly on many cars - either from new or when people have worked on them. In fact, my loom doesn't even quite run like the one in the picture above

Lots of the new clips, as shown above, are very, very tight to fit. I've often cut an increased chamfer on the leading point to help fit them.

            Cheers

Several other cars use them too e.g Vauxhalls from the same era.

To help fit them, find a nail which fits into the hole in the clip 'legs', cut off its point, then use it to push the clip into the holes in the body one leg at a time.

Thanks. I'll grab some of those clips.
Just another job to do while I've got the heads off - it's amazing how much easier it is to get to things in the engine bay!
