    Following the ROM makes sense!

I fitted new timing chains, guides, tensioners and sprockets while the cylinder heads were off. Although the ROM said to fit the heads before the front cover, I set the chain guides and pre-tensioned the chains and fitted the cover before the heads because it seemed better to have the front cover in place, otherwise you have to slide the cover in past the gaskets.

And now I have to take the cover off again because I have set the chain guides too tight and I can't get the sprockets onto the camshafts.

I would have done it today but it's a bit cold in the garage.

Careful there Harvey, ensure you have the mnemonic translation to hand in a form guaranteed not to upset some of the shrinking violets that inhabit these pages lol.

Of course, I was actually trying to avoid loosening the sump fastenings!

Read The Friendly Manual - what's wrong with that?

              Cheers,

That's what I thought it meant - and if you believe that you'll believe anything!

PS My wife introduced me to the real meaning of RTFM about 40 years ago.
