    Tyre Size

    Hi
Might sound like a stupid question.
But what is the correct tyre size on our cars.
    Mine currently sit on 185/70/14
    Iv'e seen others running 195/70/14
Which is the correct size our cars came of the production line with

    Thanks

    185 80 14's or 195 70 14's (3.5%) speedo out
185 70 14 's look too small in my opinion but they were fitted from new on some cars I believe
    Yellow Rules OK

205/70 14 is the exact match for the 185/80 originals but some say they think they look to ballooney,

I thought 195 was the widest you could go before encountering clearance issues

205/70 x 14 do fit (I've had them on 6" rims) as do 205/60 x 15 same rolling circumference and a number of people on here use the latter with no problems.

I had 205/70 14's on one of my Stags in the 80's..
They looked really nice and filled under the arches well, but a tight fit..

Ran 195/70 14 forever, but compared to today's cars, they look ballooney too!
Would like some 16's, but would really like to know what the real life drive is like with the standard backend, its always been said too much camber change for low profile tyres.

There is an article in the latest PC regarding classic tyres. Worth reading, especially the last paragraph:

At the end of the day, it is your car and as long as you are happy, and the tyre's are legal, it is your choice. Having dabbled with bigger wheels and LP tyres in the past I'm happy to go back to the OE equipment (185 80R14).

What were the main differences, ride quality?

Not a lot of difference John. The 195/65 x 15 tyres are slightly smaller in overall diameter which affects the gearing a bit. Not much, but it cancelled out much of the advantage of having a 3.45:1 diff. I just think that the Triumph designers got it right and I like the original look.....
