When I woke up this morning .......blues

Checked the water level which has always been on the expected low mark for ages rising up to the normal hot running mark when up to temperature but today when cold (very frosty) the level was at the normal hot running level and the top hose was pretty much 100% air.

the top of the rad was also down I have the dreaded air in the system )

Yesterday the temp gauge was normal on an 80 mile run

looked around and found the jubilee clip sealing the hose to the bottom of the overflow bottle had snapped ! I've fitted new one and will top up and bleed tomorrow .

I've also stared to collect bits for the fitment of a .................................................. ...a raised alternative water reservoir .

    Any thoughts most welcome

          Hi Alex,

If you want a relatively simple and cheap answer I'd recommend doing what I've done.

I've simply connected a Land Rover expansion tank to the existing expansion tank pipe and mounted it high on the inner wing. I've added a low level sensor and all's well - apart fom a slight leak into the vee.

The only slight concern about this is that the metal pipe goes an inch or two down into the rad and I could potentially get a slight air lock above that level however it's worked perfectly for some 10,000 miles.

          Good luck. Cheers.

          Julian

Yes agree, get one from a Discovery 1 and purchase also the bracket. Easy to fit. P1000881 compresed.jpg

              Mario,
Just stopped in time shelling out £55 quid for a glorified fairy liquid bottle , as mine is cracked and leaking .
So a Disco 1 bottle will be ok ? They are about £20 on eBay .

From the photos I can see on eBay, there are two pipes. Presumably , one is the overflow and has nothing connected to it, and the other has the rad pipe connected to it ? You mention a bracket....what sort ??

              cheers

Mrs Hoskins, my mistake, its not out of a Disco but a 90 or 110. Landrover also had them in Range Rovers too so you should find a cheap good one. You plumb the bottom pipe to the radiator pipe going to the previous expansion tank and the top one (below the neck) acts as an over flow. Any other pipes should be blocked. You can see all three outlets in my photo above. Try and find one complete with bracket as it is easier to fit. Again see my photo for the bracket.

The bracket is more like a strap for want of a better description.

Fitted the stagwebber kit myself, well made, looks the part, comes with good instructions and not badly priced.

90 or 110 ? Please clarify. The Rover 90 /Rover 110 (Circa 1958-1963) did not have header tanks.

                        Thanks

Pretty obvious that he's talking about the Landrover 90/110.
