Hi Newbie here, I have just read this article from start to finish, really interesting and I learnt a lot. I have nothing to add on the selection of oil filters, I do have a couple of general observations.
Presumably the dirty (particulate)oil problem is only when the engine is cranking over? If this filter valve doesn't work at that point it is allowing more oil into the system than otherwise would be the case - better dirty oil at start up than no/low oil? Presumably once oil pressure is up (the warning light goes out) normal oil flow in the filter is resumed and the problem ceases.
The magnetic sump plug being at the bottom of the sump will always pick up the heavy iron particulates first as the oil pick up lifts the oil into the filter and beyond into the engine.
Quite prepared to be shot down in flames, learning all the time as new to Stags.
