    Fan belt

    Good evening everyone,
I can remember reading a thread about having a spare fan belt already fitted to the car, so if the old one break you can just slip the new one straight on by just loosening the bolts, could anyone tell me how to do this please. Also I am thinking about taking my stag to Europe and wandered if you have to put light converters on all four lights and any other things I should consider doing to stag before I go.
    Many thanks in advance. Steve

People used to do this on various diggers where there was a prop shaft bolted to the front of the engine. They used to fit a spare fan belt coil it up and cable tie it into position.
I'm not saying its impossible on a stag but looks like it may be awkward to get it seated right without catching anything. Another thing, I know it varies between cars but I can get belts on and off of mine without removing the radiator, you just have to thread it over the fan.

Another possibility is to fit 2 new good quality belts anyway so you know you have good new belts.

The only real reason some guys have fitted a spare belt and cable tying it to the front cover is because they have fitted a radiator that has left them with not enough clearance to fit a belt between the fan blades and the rad without taking out the rad. ( don't ask) I think there has been posts on here about using black electrical tape to mask off the headlights. Graham

Try post #24 on the thread above

PM me your e mail address and I'll send some photos that may give you an idea, it's congested around that area as you know but when the rads out you can do it.

          Re lights,
No need to do anything about the 2 x inners which are main beam only (unless you've fitted dual filament H4 or P45t type bulbs. You do need to sort the lenses for dip lights to mask off the uplift of the light pattern pointing at the kerb, which will potentially dazzle oncoming traffic driving on the "other" side of the road. You could try searching threads on here as has been suggested, or google for 53/4" headlamps. Do first have a look at the front lenses for a mark looking something like <-> . If it has this it indicates that the bulb holder can be changed from dipping to the left, to dipping to the right. Mine have these in Valeo/ Cibie lights fitted by a PO sometime in the 90's. Needs access to the back of the light unit, with removal of the two small pieces of radiator trim on each side.

Incidentally, if you have P45t bulbs fitted (with a complete circular flange), you can get adaptor pieces to change to H4 bulbs (found a couple on ebay for ~£10 incl P&P. Apart from H4 types being more readily available, they're also available in superbright versions, which make a useful improvement. Also, many continental countries require a spare set of bulbs to be carried in the car.
