I understand one advantage with DOT 5 silicon fluid is that it does not eat paint if spilled. Not sure if anyone has said this. PO changed both brake & clutch fluids to DOT 5 on mine.

Mine is fine on Dot 4. There again Mine doesn't have the weight of a header tank to stop as well😂😂😂

DOT 5.1 for me. It has the advantage of a higher temperature specification and will be happy with whatever glycol based fluid was there before.

Remembering the discussions many years ago when DOT5 was introduced about never needing to be changed, and not destroying paintwork, but suffering from a 'softer' brake pedal, and remembering my preference then for the firmer pedal even though I'd have to change the fluid every couple of years.

Now, I can have the higher temperature advantage of DOT5.1 without having to flush the system and as I'm replacing the flexibles with braided hoses to get a firmer pedal, there really isn't a reason to go to silicone fluid for my use.

                  As ever, YMMV
