    fuel pipe bending

Gent,s I am about to fit a new copper fuel pipe, but looking at the amount of bends that is in the old one this may be problematic. What would be the best way to bend the copper fuel pipe into the correct shape without creasing it ???

I think this needs moving to the main forum.

Machine Mart sell some automotive pipe benders. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht2...e-pipe-bender/ or https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/lase...e-pipe-bender/

I looked at them for my brake pipes, but decided to have a go using soft hands, which seems to have worked.

thread moved to main forum .

most if not all new brake pipes if copper or cunifer should be annealed and quite easy to form ,as previously stated good effective bending tools can be obtained cheaply but beware constant movement handling will start to work harden the pipe again .

Bloody Hell Long time no hear from you on the Forum Mike - It's great to see you on here

Last year I completely 'repiped' a Stag and although it was a bit frustrating at times, it was all do-able. The hardest part was getting my head around which way to bend a pipe that seemed to bend in about 5 dimensions along its length .

Seriously though, the pipe benders that are widely available will do the job just fine. The only extra tool that I wish I'd had is a pipe straightener - they are not cheap at £30 or 40 but they will make your straight pipe runs look so much neater.

          Here's a bender ( ): http://www.frost.co.uk/brake-pipe-and-tube-bender.html plus I also found these very useful: http://www.frost.co.uk/brake-tubing-forming-pliers.html
          and here's a straightener: http://www.frost.co.uk/coiled-tube-t...ol-316-od.html

You'll also need a flaring kit that may seem a bit daunting at first but you'll soon get the knack of it: http://www.frost.co.uk/brake-pipe-flaring-tool-set.html

I don't recollect the exact diameter of the pipe so make sure you get the right one and you may well be able to find some tools a little cheaper than these.

          Good luck.

          Cheers

Wow Julian - that straightener is a good find!!

Since decades I've never used those coiled sets due to exactly that what you described! I've been buying sets for other vehicles which use straight pipes, picking the one which has a suitable length, cutting it to size and swaging the end. That straightener opens up coiled sets as a possibility for the next resto! Thanks for the link.

I used a kit for mine however one length was short. My local auto shop flared the ends at my requested length. Only a few quid. I did all mine by hand and wouldn't want to invest in tools that I'm never going to use in 40 years.

Do I need to flare the ends of a fuel pipe, thought this would only be for brake pipes??

For some reason I do not have access to quick replys or to start a new post, don,t know why it will not allow me to do so. Can someone direct this to a mediator and give me the access I used to have.

Oops, despite the fact that you had the words 'fuel pipe' three times in your post, I talked about brake pipes - sorry - senior moment

Good to see you back on here though Mike

Could you suggest what all I would need to remove in regards to exhaust sections drive shaft etc. I do not have much time before I have to leave for work abroad, so time is not on my side. Do you think I could put bends in the copper pipe, without the use of a pipe bender.

Also it seems that I cannot start a new thread for some reason it tells m,e I do not have access. Also, the site times out while I am still using it and I have to keep logging back in. I did not have this p[rob;em previously

No worries Julian, am thinking of putting car into garage as I do not have time on my side. Could someone tell me if standard plumbers 8 mm copper pipe would be ok or does it have to be something else, ??
