A short run to the tip to get rid of old oil and antifreeze.

I finished upgrading the headlamp bulbs today.
When I started I found that the connections to one of the lamps had been bodged when the clip holding the bulb in had broken. The reflectors in 3 of the units were corroded as well.
I am fed up of buying sub standard reproduction parts and managed to source Lucas and Wella units made about 5 years ago.
It's an old fashioned shop. When I asked if they had any Stag headlamps he sucked his teeth and looked unsure. He then went into the back and came back with 2 Main beam units. He then went out again and came back with 2 dipped beam units telling me that they still used these on some buses.
I decided to rewire the lights using relays with feeds direct from the battery and the result of new bulbs, new reflectors and good 12v supply is amazing. The headlamps show up in the day!
As usual though, this changed from a hour job to over a day including the shopping.
I am new to classic cars but have learnt that everything takes about 10 times as long as I expect.
Before, the main beams don't match and you can't see the corroded reflectors

In response to my runout 2 days ago when I had a strange rear end sound coming from the Stag every time I went round a left hand bend (see my Stag Sightseeing Thread), took the Stag for another short run today going round as many roundabouts as I could more than once (anti-clockwise of course), and the worrying noise I heard before seems now to have dissappeared.
Maybe it was just something catching after all - I'm hoping so - but taking the car to Snooker on Saturday, and will do the same as today making as many left turns as possible there and back, just to confirm the strange noise has not come back again.
I love Saturdays for a number of reasons - I always take the Stag out on a Saturday, I play 4 or 5 frames of Snooker with a neighbour around lunch time and enjoy a nice meat & potato pie half way through (and funnily enough I always seem to play better after I've eaten my pie), then later in the evening I watch Match of the Day (in bed) on BBC1, followed by a good book before going to sleep.
The reason I watch the football in bed, is that the misses insists on watching something else on the lounge TV as she doesn't like football, so I get banished to the bedroom where we have a 2nd TV. Usually take some supper with me to munch on whilst watching the day's matches.
Also on a Saturday afternoon I usually spend a couple of hours in my storeroom, modifying my model railway layout and running trains round it. The misses doesn't mind me doing all this as she usually arranges to meet up with some female friends at this time for a coffee and a chat.

How typical.
On Wednesday I bothered to use the car for the first time since last last August, and found that I really enjoyed the experience as it does look and drive brilliantly now after having it restored last year.
So today I went into my garage thinking I might use it, only to find and it has a flat tyre - small beer I know. It has always tested my patience and I had hoped to fall back in love, but it is just not working.

Popped along to the car show at Killerton House. Had to park in the 'classic' section of the car park as my entry had arrived after entries had closed early due to over subscription. Several nice Stags on display on the SOC stand and elsewhere. Bumped into Glenn (seaking) and had a long chat. Around 500 cars in total including this rather interesting modern VW

Whilst this car is interesting I am becoming increasingly concerned that these events are being flooded with vaguely interesting modern cars at the expense of (such as you) a real classic.
It is time that the organisers of these events put an age limit on the cars accepted for the display at 25 years +
I have been to several small events recently where it has been "dive bombed" by a post 1992 car enthusiasts club ( notably MX5's)
Their group application has resulted (as you were) in the exclusion of real classics
Also I went to a classic car event a couple of weeks ago and I was parked next to a 1998 Volkswagen Passat estate (2.0 diesel). The owner had a typed info/history sheet in the windscreen .........so? Good way tio get frree town centre parking for the day?
Hope to be moving to Dorset soon
Regards
