Today I finished some work which started before Easter..... The car has been away for three months lodging with an 'expert' in Dorset so there was a backlog of work to do.
I have now fitted the trailing arm poly bushes & recon rear hubs from Mr. Witor, new half-shafts from Chard Engineering and new brake shoes and springs from Paddocks. It has made a difference.
Last week I fitted the underfelt to the gearbox tunnel carpet which made a significant difference to the level of gearbox noise in the car. Nothing wrong with the gearbox - it's a ZF from Messrs. Tate & Lewis, but the noise was a little intrusive with only the thin after-market carpet to dampen the sound.
The car is beginning to come back to life. I now need to visit the 'expert' in Dorset to reclaim my £950, phone Mr. Paddock and buy a recon diff with a new CW&P, fit it and the car will be at the state it should have been at early in May. Since then I have had to cancel the 3,000 mile trip to Barcelona and Monaco and to cancel the entry in the Club Triumph 10CR - 2,000 miles through ten European countries in four days. Including the Stelvio Pass.
Hoping for a better end to the year,
RichardRichard

I have a white stag owner from the Colchester area currenty staying on our complex, and I am sure he would agree that the car is perfectly suited for travelling abroad.
in fact I would say that the Stag is more suited to traveling abroad than it it is to be being usee on U.K. roads.

There isn't much to do to the car now, but I normally use it most days and I'm not so confident about a long run after a long layup. Add to that the fact that I can't work as quickly as I could 30 years ago.....!Richard

On checking through the Stag paper work I discovered that it's ITV (MOT) certificate had expired in May this year.
It is 5 years since it last needed a test and I hadn't been sent any reminder.
So got a local mechanic to take it for the Test, but they refused to do it saying the paperwork was not complete.
Apparently they have changed the rules (always doing that in the Canaries) and now want much more paperwork including all the originally documents from when it was first imported.
My mechanic had to bring it back and we have been digging out all the old papers (you should never throw away any papers in Tenerife). We think we have found what they need so he is going to try again on Monday as you now also have to pre-book in any "Historic" plate vehicles, as they no longer test them alongside modern cars and the next available slot is this coming Monday.
The Canarian government seems to love red tape and regularly changing the rules.
Will see what happens Monday.
In the meantime have got a new Stag owner from Colchester staying with us in Castle Harbour, and off out with him and his wife for a meal tonight. Will probably take him out for a short ride in my Stag tomorrow, even though the ITV has expired, and if stopped can say that it is booked in Monday.

Drive from Reims to Grenoble, 380 miles. Tomorrow is down to Frejus, another 245 so that will be 1000 miles since Wednesday. Average MPG is 34 but I'm only doing 60-65 MPH
