Had 4 new Avon ZT5 tyres and tubes fitted to the wire wheels. The fitter said the old ones were over 20 years old but in remarkably good condition but the tread had hardened and they would be dangerous in the wet.

Tes, a number have been seduced by the visual good condition on older tyres if the car is garaged. UV seems to be the culprit for causing cracking, but it's the oxidation process that causes the hardening. Mine seemed OK in the wet with a fully loaded car, but lethal with driver-only. Apparently they were ~30-years old, but still looking good

Not too bad, only a couple of hours, the hardest bit was splitting the taper on the TREs as I couldn't find my splitter and had to do it the old fashioned way with hammers.

Starred at the expensive puddle of PSF under the car and wondered why modern replacements aren't available for the power steering.

After two year's hard work renovating the Stag, Wednesday was the first real run out: time for a picnic.

26 degrees, sunshine, mountains and a shiny blue Stag.

ps I tried to add the picture but it doesn't seem to have taken.

I had a day off work and took the opportunity to have a drive out in the Stag with the roof down into sunny North Wales

3,000 mile service. Oil level was at the low mark after the France trip, it's actually due for an oil change but it'll have to wait until next week. Topped up the brake fluid, memo to self, look at the pads next service! That'll be sometime next month, I've a trip to Cornwall in a couple of weeks....

Finished fitting a retro looking dab sterio and speakers - No pannels cut, no speakers visible (one speaker in the origional Stag speaker mounting on the dash and two under the front seats). Very happy with myself and great sound :-)
