I went to Leyland for an offer MOT at Protyre - £34.95 - and passed with no advisories.
My car does not require an MOT now but I feel more comfortable knowing it has been checked over and given the 'Thumbs Up'
All ready for the trip over to Newby Hall on Sunday - unless England make it to the final........... !

Went for a short drive in ours. It's first run out since mid January. It felt great to hear the V8 burble again and feel the wind through my hair

Spent five hours sorting the cam follower shims. Brought the car home. Still got noisy camshafts. Probably have to decide on a head refurbish soon which will push the respray back another year!

Just back from 330+mls around the Yorkshire Dales in gorgeous weather and scenery. Car performed faultlessly. Even SWMBO enjoyed the ride with the top down

You've been fortunate with your timing as I live in the Dales and it's been raining heavily all morning here. It's not often we actually venture into the Dales because it's always clogged up with cyclists, especially Wharfedale. We went up to the Lakes on Tuesday evening and the roads were very quiet, all the tourists having gone home.

I hardly ever travel long distances any more, so never get much more than 20 to the gallon, but when I lived in the U.K. I did travel longer distances than I do now, and used to get 25mpg (auto with standard BW65 gearbox).

Talking of fuel though, I don't know about anyone else, but I have found the car runs smoother if I put in 98 Octane every 4th or 5th fill, and use standard 95 Octane unleaded im-between. Went a run in the wife's Honda Accord earlier today and I filled up beforehand with 98 Octane as well this time, and that car too seemed to run better than it does on standard 95 unleaded.

Anybody else found the same thing?, although the Petrol out here in Tenerife could be of a different quality to that sold in the U.K., even though some of the brand names (such as Shell) are the same. I think it is "Repsol" that is sold at my local Filling Station and that I normally use.

I made the same point on here ages ago and it seemed that the decision was split. Our local village petrol station does sell a higher octane fuel which is about 8p per litre dearer than the ordinary grade 4* but every now and again I put some of the expensive stuff in as I certainly don't think it will be detrimental to the running of the car. There's also a school of thought that says you shouldn't use supermarket petrol but I've never had a problem with any car I've used it in.

6 Stags from North Lancashire went over to Newby Hall at Ripon on Sunday - Very warm day but all got there and back with no issues.
Many Thanks to our Stag friends in Yorkshire for their hospitality - bacon roll and tea on arrival.
49 Stags listed in the program and seemed like nearly all were there on the day.
So hot the waxoyl inside the driver's door on the sunny side leaked a bit via the door handle - lovely
Great show, Great day out. Great run home via Pately Bridge gave us some stunning views of the scenery.

I have had my Stag two years now, of which most of the first 9 months or so it was off the road, before going to Robsport for an engine rebuild. Finished a long weekend in Devon, with a great drive back to Bedford. As the engine is now run in, I have found that It’s a bit of a Jekyl & Hyde. I burbled down to Devon using no more than about 3,000 revs as I was in convoy with various other classics. I came back on my own and stretched its legs. Above 3,000 rpm, the engine gets this hard note which really gets the senses going. Reminds me a little of the noise the old Ford DFV F1 engine made. So I used every opportunity to hold the gears a little longer, changing up at 4,000 to 4,500.

                          Simple pleasures

Needed to tighten the fan belt after a few squeals under load (with headlights on typically) so replaced both belts and changed the oil and filter, cleaned and gapped the plugs and sorted a sticking accelerator - which appeared to be the frayed end of the throttle cable catching on the linkage!

Whilst underneath I checked the bottom suspension arm on the nearside, I replaced both arms for last years MOT because of play in one bush, but always felt something strange when cornering right hand bends - more understeer than in left hand bends. Found that both inner rubber bushes are deforming and pulling out of the arms - the nearside far worse than the offside though.

Fortunately I still have the original arms which were also polybushed, so I’ve ordered two new bottom joints from LD parts and will refurb my own arms and swop them back. I will try and post a piccie or two when I get around to changing them.

Used jump leads to get little cousin started.

My neighbour passed away recently and his Spit has lain untouched in the garage since. Took it for a spin 'around the block' and then washed and photographed it so that his widow can get a Probate valuation.

First time I've ever driven a small chassis Triumph. Makes you realise how modern the Stag was in comparison. The Spit in question is several years newer than my Stag, but feels ancient to drive. Being rather taller (and larger!) than average, I don't think I could use it regularly..........

I've never driven a Spitfire but my first car was a Triumph Herald which I would think is similar. It has a sunroof which was a nice touch and was fun to drive but you had to be careful trying to corner fast as the rear wheels had a nasty habit of trying to tuck under which made for interesting handling
