I have shortcut the selection of the cable diameter by using Jaguar's approach to their own rear to front cables. I took that and other items from a Jaguar XJ8 (X308) using some 'back of beermat' logic - If it runs the front end of a car like that, it'll be nicely over-engineered for the Stag.

    And cheap, e.g. free!

Anyhow, we can discuss all this and more when I write it up on another thead.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company They may want an independent engineers report on the modification.

      Thanks Ian,

That's a really good point and one that can't be 'aired' too many times.

The set of pics I might use for a seperate thread on the whole project have gone into my agreed value folder and have been disclosed as a mod. Neatly, my insurance has just come up for renewal.

      Regards

I just got back from a 900-mile trip to The Netherlands. The Stag was perfectly well behaved, apart from a little hissy fit in the queue for the French Customs this morning.
The weather was not well behaved. It rained all the way through Begium on the way out, and all through Holland, Begium and France on the way back. And then it rained in England until we got to the M25.

Fitted stainless front bumper this evening.

Very pleased with bumper, but it makes me think I may have to wash the the rest of the car - now that Ian has shown me how it's done.

I'll fit the rear one before I do anything too rash.... .

Don't forget to dry inbetween your brakes afterward

I should have added that these were the new shoes I ordered from SOC spares, when the previous "new" ones (bought in 2002, also from SOC) didn't fit in that I couldn't get the drums back on (post 476, p48 on this thread).
I can only imagine that they were faulty, but when they didn't fit back in 2002, I assumed it was me doing it wrong, and as the old shoes still had more life in them than I thought I left those on.
When I tried again this year, following all the advice available from here (http://socforum.com/forum/showthread...hoes-what-size), they still didn't fit so then felt there was more to it.
                I imagine it's a bit late for a refund!

Wired my new radio to replace an ugly 90's cd player. Got a retro look facia with USB, Bluetooth, aux in, looks good and works really well. Had a little sub lying around in the garage, so put that in the boot as well just to enriched the quality of the sound and it really works without ruining the look. Oh and and fitted an electric arial, which goes up when radio is turned on, ah awsome! Also got a couple of drive shafts from Robsport near Royston to swap in the near future along with a reconditioned Dif that came with the Stag when I bought it. Busy but happy days,

On the way to play snooker today engine cut out on me and was lucky to find a place to pull in
with some difficulty as no Steering assistance. Fiddled about with the fuel cut-off switch and got
her going again, and have since by-passed the device and removed it to check and clean it.
No more cutting out problems (yet) since removing. It could of course have been some dirty fuel
in the carbs but I don't think so.

The real good news though is that from today I now have an underground parking space courtesy of a
friend in a nearby complex who doesn't use it. I am paying him €40 a month for it as that is what
he gets charged for it. Still to find somewhere to store my hardtop when I remove it though, the new parking
space is not big or secure enough to take it, as it is just a space between 2 lines below ground level.
Been given the "fob" that works the entrance and exit doors, and when visiting the U.K. in about 3 weeks
time, I now have somewhere safer to store the Stag than our open complex car park.

Glad I got the Stag going again as it was only yesterday that our other car (the wife's Honda) went into a
Garage for some repairs (electric window mechanismn and broken inside door handle etc.), so we need the
Stag for getting out and about.

Further to my earlier post, no wonder I was having problems with my fuel cut-off device -
below is a picture of it diss-assembled showing it to be all rusty - surprised it made any contact at all.

The ball doesn't make the contact.

The "ring" that does is just as bad, just couldn't get it out at first to photograph it,
the picture of the ball was meant to give an example of how much rust there is in there.

I suspect that there are rather a lot like that. After all, they weren't expected to last 40+ years. It only takes a few minutes to open them up and clean the contacts, then they'll perform their designed duty for another 40 years.....

And yes, the ball is only a heavy weight and performs no electrical purpose.

Went to Feckenham Wake, a genteel worcestershire event in Feckenham.

First time there, worth a look next year I think.

there was a 1917 La France 14.5 litre roadster put-futing in.

So you've got a rusty ball and a rusty ring sounds terminal to me
