I'm still building confidence, it had been off the road for 28 years - abandoned project! Beware! I made a rash promise to my daughter, and had it running for her wedding at the bank holiday just gone. I think I have encountered and overcome just about every "Stag" problem going over the past year, but driving around today makes it all sooooo worthwhile!

Mine is in the car park at work. It's my daily driver, on days like today....

120-mile round trip to Saunton via Great Torrington and Bideford and back down the A377. The last 70-odd miles without servo assistance to the brakes. That concentrates the mind and reinforces the need to think ahead. The Stag brakes are terrible with no assistanceDave

Got home after 2 1/2 months away. Took the covers off, disconnected the smart charger, cranked for 20 seconds with HT lead off till I got some oil pressure, turned to start again and everything went dead! Searched for 1/2 hour for the dis-car-nect plug, which was actually hanging with the keys, and it started first turn. Mental note: get over jet lag before starting car next time.
Now I have to get it cleaned up for a visit to the Classic British Car day in Brisbane on Sunday.74 manual o/d, white with shadow blue. Datsun axles, Sierra HT.

yesterday .. high speed dash from High Wycombe to N Devon. started out in 26 ambiant temperature with shorts and t-shirt. temp gauge happily sitting between 90-95. Only issues were the overdrive solenoid sticking on when disengaged. Discounted the switch because od was engaged for 1st and 2nd gears also. Got stuck in traffic for an hour on the A420 just outside Swindon. then hoofed it for the rest of the journey.
26mpg average - that'll do Stag
My Speedo may be underreading will need to get it sortedStags and Range Rover Classics - I must be a loony

Used mine for work for the 3rd day in a row this week. Not bad considering it was left in the garage for nearly 3 months while we were in Normandy.
Now the dragging clutch is sorted it is a dream to drive! The clutch is now light, smooth and predictable. Fantastic!
The A420 is a horrible road. I used to live in Faringdon but left there just after the bypass was built. Before that everything came through the town!
Cheers,
Mike.Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

Mines at work today
Will be replacing rear brakes on Saturday. The handbrake jammed on the other morning..had to be pulled up dammed tight and then released whilst driving forward to release the brake it all works again now but since I have the new parts (shoes and drums and adjuster kit and release levers) figured Id best do it before attacking the Italian Alps at the end of the month.

Swapped the differential again.
I now have the original 3.7 installed which I re-bearinged (thanks Chris Witor) and then had set up by Marcus in Scaryport. Very very quiet now.
The 4.1 which I bought as a "genuine re-conditioned Stag diff" is very good, nice and quiet, but it doesn't really suit a Stag. I must find a 2000 estate owner who wants a recon diff.
Managed to seal some more leaky joints on the exhaust.
Changed the oil and filter.
Wired up the Cibié Oscar spotlights which I'll be using for the RBRR.
Wired up the 220W electric fan which helps the temperature gauge stay on the low side of "N" even in today's heat and traffic.
Half-wired the relays for Dip and Main but ran out of time.Richard

Will you be blogging your experiences, I would be really interested in how well a Stag can do, with half a mind to entering myself next year.Chris

Painted the inside of my new (to me) front bumper, which has been rechromed. Painted it with Hammerite primer
