Took the Stag out for Drive it Day on a run to Devils Dyke, Brighton with a local group of Triumphs. Managed to do the whole run without brake lights! They were working when MOT'd recently. Took the switch apart when I got home and cleaned it and now have working lights again, but to be on the safe side will pop to our local factors tomorrow and procure a replacement.Steve

Had a great Drive-it Day with West Sussex Stags. 17 of us met at the Garden center in Hassocks and drove through the Sussex villages to Ticehurst where we met up with Weald Classic Vehicle Club and some other classic car enthusiasts. Our host kindly supplied bacon and sausage rolls and hot drinks and we later continued on to Flimwell for a superb pub lunch. Thanks to Ian and his wife for the open-house and the lovely bacon roll, also to Bob for organising the Lunch and to the good company we all enjoyed.
Some pics attached including outcome of a bird dumping on us from great height on the way home. How's that for a lucky miss - that is my headrest! The bonnet Windscreen and back seat took direct hits but Russ and I were unscathed.
Spent some time cleaning it all up and Stag now safely tucked away.DiD 2017 Near miss.jpgDid2017 Stags at Ticehurst.jpgDid 2017 Meet at South Downs Gdn Centre.jpgDid 2017 Enjoying the sunshine at Ticehurst.jpgDiD 2017 other marques at Ticehurst.jpg

Replaced nsf door handle - ns door now opens!
Replaced front fuel filter (crudded up) with nice new glass one.
Looked at rear fuel filter and then couldn't find replacement its in the barn somewhere.
Tidied my part of barn so I can get car out more easily.
Not sure why mine (new in 2015) has an extra vent pipe - re capped off with closed fuel pipe, might just adapt it so that both vent/return pipes are joined up.
Weird, but no smell - just need to redo some boot paint as fuel is a great paint stripper!

just retrieved my Stag from the underground garage where I had left it whilst in the U.K. to support my son run in the London Marathon.
Started on the 1st turn of the key (as expected!), but noticed the driver's door puddle lamp wasn't coming on (but the passenger door one was), so looks like the bulb has gone and needs replacing - will have a look tomorrow.
Then going to see about removing and storing the hardtop and fitting my tonneau cover as it looks like Summer has arrived as it's really quite warm, although it did rain last night for a short period.

Stripped and rebuilt the inertia cut off switch, the ball bearing was heavily coated in rust as was the magnet below, a thorough clean and the ball bearing now remains on the magnet when going over speed bumps and the frequent loss of power to the fuel pump when in town is a thing of the past. Took me ages to twig what was happening as the fuel pump always restarted 30 seconds or so after the car ground to a halt, eventually realised that this always happned after passing over a speed bump, a check of the intertia cut out showed that whilst the jolt didnt lift the plunger completely up it was slightly raised and sufficient to cause intermittent loss of power until gravity took over and the plunger fell back down to restore power.

Trying to decide whether to go for new hood and frame from SE Trimming.
Following on from yesterday when had to take stag to MOT in the rain. Fortunately in good time put up hood for the first time in last 6 months or so. Catch* had released so struggled to get rear frame out of well then frame/hood was reticent to expand. Then found window zip selvage had come apart for around 10" from hood selvage which in turn had parted for around 6" from hood! Eventually with care managed to tease zip through this section. However having left both front an rear locks undone to remove stress for this it took 5 attempts of locking front and unlocking to flatten frame by literally laying on it to get rear to lock as well.
* I am sure this frame is distorted as it is impossible to mount the n/s catch mechanism as frame bar obstructs.
MOT Passed

Re fitted water pump cover and inlet manifold, fill with coolant tomorrow and hope I've cured the leak!
