    Which HID kit did you use, Steve? This is on my wish list, though just fitted super-bright Philips halogens and not properly tried them out yet. I can say that they're much better than the standard bulbs.

      Took my colleagues at work to the Loose Cannon Brewery to buy beer (Coffee IPA and Recoil ) for a birthday party and on to the the Prince of Wales in Shippon for some Black Sheep and some chilli, then a blast back down the A34 to Didcot.           Probably because the service regime only allowed for Check/Top Up Final Drive Oil every 6,000 miles and they didn't expect the diff to be sufficiently oil-tight to warrant changing the oil before the diff was kn*ckered.........

            Purely safe workshop practice and nothing to do with anything else. It is usually the very first thing an apprentice is taught on their first day (and was with all 6 of mine). Perfectly acceptable to use an isolator on a positive terminal, subject to it having suitable insulation/cover of the switchable bit just on pure safety grounds - a lot of isolators are just open bare metal with a knobbed screw to join it - this may pass close to the battery clamp or other earthed part if this is used on a positive terminal. Obviously it would make no difference being open if on the earth side.

            The only reason a terminal or isolator would spark while disconnecting is if the car is still drawing a load, so if everything is off, and in good order, nothing should happen

              Trying, and failing, to fit new rear brake shoes.
              The shoes were bought many many years ago (from SOC spares in 2002!) and I recall having difficulty trying to fit them then, and refitting the old ones - which actually weren't too bad anyway.
              Trying again today, I just can't get the nearside drum to go over the new shoes. Having spent more hours on it than intended, I haven't tried the nearside.

              Following advice on other threads - although where the problem there was binding once the drum was fitted - I've filed the heel of the shoe where it fits into the top retainer, but probably not taken as much off as in that thread. I've ensured the adjuster is full slackened off but the drum just won't go onto the new shoes at all.

              So - the old shoes are back on (getting a bit close to the rivets now).

              I think I'll get another set of shoes just to eliminate the possibility of rogue/poor quality there.

              Anyone any thoughts?

                          hi johno , ive had the kit for two years and struggled to find time to fit them as never had enough spare time or mojo to do until the other day cos ive got a trip to LE Mans coming up so thought I better make the effort ! funny thing is I had some problems with the kit and had to go to the shop to see the guy who sold me the kit only to find they closed up a year ago and the guy apparently batted for the other side has set up shop with a big butch turkish guy selling kebabs!!! so i thought i was stuffed but managed to get some spare bits on line x matched to get it all working . it is an amazing difference to be able to see so far and clearly at night on unlit roads my eyes suffer at night but this cool white light makes driving in the dark a pleasure . go for it is my advice you wont look back ,i hope to get them properly aligned this weekend quite an important job for other motorists benefit .

                              Can I ask how you will get them properly aligned? Previous (earlier) classics I have owned have had instructions on how to make a beam target in their manuals for alignment when the headlights are at a certain distance from the target. Have not found similar in the Stag documentation ? Am about to swap my sealed beams (Yes sealed beams) for new bowls with Philips extra halogens, but do not have a clue how to align them other than "that looks ok"

                              Any advice greatly appreciated.

                                You take it to a garage that has a beam checker. I think they stopped setting up headlights with a couple marks on the wall in the 60's
