    Neil,

    Correct clips are available: http://www.ldparts.co.uk/shop/shop.p...6860d6260ea912

The choke clip and heater clip are different. Green with dimple is for heater; black without dimple is for the choke. I do agree that some of Peter's postage charges can be a bit steep, but with something as small as that it might be worth giving him a call.

Overdrive stopped working - not a worry as the switch felt a bit 'funny' and it had been a bit erratic over the past week or so - so next day a nice new Lucas one arrived, popped her on & hey presto back to normal ! (on the old switch one of the two 'tangs' the roller bit glides over has disintegrated, not bad after 40 year though ...)

Then storm hunting up & over Mallerstang Common. Pics rubbish sadly, must take a proper camera for such things.

After getting the car started again yesterday after resolving my electrical and fuel issues,
followed DJT's advice regarding the fuel cut-off plunger, secured the wire from the fuse box
that goes to the Newtronic ignition box, then re-fitted the windscreen washer bottle & motor
I had forgotten to put back yesterday.

Turned the key to see that she started again O.K., which she did on the 1st turn, and let the
engine warm up checking to see everything looked O.K. and nothing was catching, and that the
new alternator was still charging the battery O.K.

Ticked over lovely and smoothly and heard the electric fan cut-in when the temperature reached
a certain level. Then switched on the new radio/CD/MP3 player to see that it was working O.K.,
and tried the windscreen washer and wipers to get rid of some dust on the windscreen.

After satisfying myself all seemed O.K. switched off with the intention of tomorrow morning taking
the car out for a good run locally. When I have picked up my new Mobius micro camcorder from
my son's in Chester in August, will try it out in the Stag on my return from Bournemouth, where
I will also check it out on my person on a few sites that we visit.

Drove down to Ivybridge and met up with other Devon Stags for a drive around the lanes of the South Hams ending up at the Dartmoor Lodge for our monthly N&N. 10 Stags (one arrived after these photos were taken) and a Dolomite that was at the pub when we got there.

Gave it another run today as I said I would. Started and ran fine and alternator charging battery as it should,
and no sign of any leaks from the petrol tank and all gauges showing everything is normal. Big relief and the
stiffness I have had the last few days from working on the car is now easing off. Bought a new can of WD40
today whilst out and in two minds whether to spay it on myself where I am aching rather than parts of the car!.

image.jpgUsed it to drive up to Greenwich to sort out the mess the AA man did the other night to the carbs and ignition of this "stealth" car - unfortunately couldn't get a photo of them together as mine was stuck in the private underground car park where the Alvis lives

Had a nice long road test around London in it, people really stare as they think you're connected to the Queen with that reg no, and I was a mere oik driving it

The great thing for me is it belongs to Auntie Ruth who is lovely - she's had this from new, and I'm the only person allowed to open the bonnet except for checking oil and water. Unfortunately it dropped out a couple of cylinders in heavy traffic a couple of nights ago - being an auto it wouldn't pull so the AA was called - sticky dashpot was the problem (which he didn't find) but then I had to retune the triple SUs coz the idiot started messing - plus he started fiddling the ignition and somehow got it 15 degrees ATDC instead of 10 before

A bit of a labour of love, but it's a cross I'm willing to bear

I wish I still had my Alvis TD21. Slightly worse fuel consumption than a Stag and a little slower off the mark but a superb car.

Today I fitted my recon 3.7 diff and found out why the exhaust was blowing at the manifold - the pipe didn't fit, so I put it in a pipe bender and made it fit. Glorious trip home!

Although it has been the hottest day so far in Bristol, the temperature gauge peaked at just over the N mark on the stop/start rush-hour 25 mile trip home. I'm going to fit an electric fan with a manual switch for those days when I'm caught in traffic just for peace of mind.

Looks great, bet the AA man spent ages trying to find the diagnostic socket.
